Our award-winning JW Lees Original lager is proper lager. Crisp and clean. We use only British malts, with plenty of Styrian and Saaz hops. It’s a refreshing balance of soft citrus and a subtle malt sweetness. It’s pure sunshine with just the right amount of hoppiness and depth. Light citrus and floral aroma, fresh cut sweet citrus flavour with a refreshing crisp finish.
THE STORY OF ORIGINAL
Before the advent of refrigeration, German brewers would store lager in cool cellars, filling them with ice from nearby lakes and rivers. To further protect from the summer sun, brewers would plant Chestnut Trees above the cellars, which have a spreading, dense canopy and shallow roots. The practice of serving beer at these sites evolved into the modern beer garden. First brewed in 1995, today our Silver award-winning Original Lager is brewed using traditional methods, using noble hops, cold stored and enjoyed in beer gardens across Manchester and beyond.
