JW Lees buys The Goshawk Pub in Mouldsworth near Chester

25th March 2019

The Goshawk, a 19th Century former coaching inn in the heart of Cheshire, has been bought by JW Lees Brewery from Hydes Brewery with completion today 25th March 2019.

JW Lees, who last week won Best Brewing Pub Company at the Publican Awards, has now welcomed the team at The Goshawk pub into their Inns & Hotels division.  Set in the scenic village of Mouldsworth, the pub is full of character displaying many classic architectural features such as large fireplaces and attractive wooden lintels.  The property features a tap room and cosy dining areas spread throughout the extensive building.  The pub’s location also benefits from outdoor dining areas and its own bowling green.

New owner JW Lees continues to grow its pub business in the North West, which also includes the newly refurbished Alderley Edge Hotel, the recently acquired Bluebird Inn, Samlesbury and Stanneylands Hotel, Wilmslow.  JW Lees remains keen to acquire new pubs, inns and hotels in the North West.

William Lees-Jones, Managing Director of JW Lees, said: “When we saw that The Goshawk was available, we immediately knew that it would be a great pub for us, filling a gap in between Delamere, Frodsham and Chester and we believe that we can add value to the business by welcoming it to our growing Inns & Hotels division.  We’re delighted to have bought the Goshawk and have inherited a fantastic team as well as acquiring a landmark pub.  We are growing a collection of fine country pubs and they are becoming an increasingly important part of our core business.”

The Goshawk Pub will re-open on Friday 29th March after a short closure for some small alterations and training.
