JW Lees Celebrates the Reopening of The Millgate, Failsworth, Following Major Refurbishment

JW Lees are proud to announce the reopening of The Millgate in Failsworth following a four-week closure and a £512,164 investment. The project was led by Daniel J. Caulfield from JW Lees Property team, with principal contractors Ark Construction and SCC Consultants. The Millgate officially welcomed guests back through its doors on Thursday 9th October.

Standing proudly in the heart of Failsworth, The Millgate is part of a town steeped in Manchester’s industrial heritage. Easily reached by road or metro link from the city centre, Failsworth offers a glimpse of Greater Manchester’s character, combining its industrial heritage with green canal paths, local landmarks, and a proud community atmosphere. Located just a short distance from JW Lees Greengate Brewery in Middleton, The Millgate continues a long Northern tradition of great beer, good company, and warm hospitality.

The refurbishment has seen a complete transformation of the bar, dining areas and toilets, creating a refreshed yet cosy atmosphere that retains the pub’s welcoming charm. Externally, The Millgate has been enhanced with new signage and lighting, ensuring it looks as inviting from the outside as it feels within. The investment also includes significant improvements to the kitchen and catering areas, ensuring the team can continue to deliver a high standard of freshly prepared pub food from their 5* EHO rated kitchen.

Guests can look forward to tucking in beside the fire with a delicious new Autumn menu packed with great-value pub food. The Millgate’s bar showcases an impressive range of JW Lees beers, including Bitter, Manchester Pale Ale, Original Lager, Manchester Craft Lager, and Northern Stout. Guests will also find the latest small-batch beers from The Boilerhouse microbrewery, alongside a rotating selection of seasonal cask ales.

Pam Brooks, General Manager of The Millgate, shared her excitement about the refurbishment:

“The transformation has made me feel so proud and excited. Our customers are going to love it. We continue to be the heart of the community, and we can’t wait to welcome back our customers old and new. We have always been a family friendly pub.”

JW Lees remains committed to investing in its pubs and creating outstanding hospitality experiences across the North West. The reopening of The Millgate marks the latest step in that journey, offering a warm, welcoming space for locals, regulars, and visitors to enjoy quality food, great beer, and proper Northern hospitality.
