JW Lees Completes £600,000 Transformation of Monton Village Pub
JW Lees is proud to announce the successful reopening of the Blue Bell, its grand, historic pub at the intersection of Monton Green and Monton Road, following a refurbishment programme representing a £600,000 investment. The pub reopened its doors on Friday 21st August, welcoming familiar faces and first-time visitors alike.

A landmark in the heart of the village, the Blue Bell has been thoughtfully refreshed from the ground up. Refurbishment works encompassed the entirety of the inside space including the bar and dining areas, with the internal layout opened up to create a lighter, more generous space, and smart tiling, new fixtures, fittings, furniture and décor lending an elevated feel to the pub. The result is a bright, open-plan pub that flows easily from bar to dining areas, while the front and side facing terrace, fitted out with new furniture, planters and a new sound system, is the perfect spot to enjoy a pint and a bite to eat, whether calling in for a quick lunch or making a real occasion of it.

The resulting space strikes a considered balance: contemporary in its presentation yet rooted firmly in the warmth of a traditional village inn. At the bar, guests will find an outstanding lineup of JW Lees beers, brewed at the Greengate Brewery in Middleton, including Original Lager, Manchester Craft Lager and Stout on keg, alongside Bitter, Manchester Pale Ale and Founders Ale on cask. The rotating guest selection features seasonal ales and small-batch releases from The Boilerhouse microbrewery, complemented by the addition of beer flights. The Blue Bell has also launched a new menu, led by a show-stopping Spatchcock chicken sharer, tasty Nourish bowls and plenty more, sitting alongside JW Lees favourites including John Willie’s beer battered fish and chips and the Legendary three cheese and onion pie; perfect for pairing with cask and keg beers from Manchester’s oldest brewery.
The refurbishment was designed by Louise Thorpe of the JW Lees Property Team and delivered by principal contractors Silverglide, whose combined expertise has brought the character of the building to the fore in every detail.

Sitting at the junction of Monton Green and Monton Road, in the heart of Monton village, the Blue Bell is a natural stopping point for those exploring the area. Whether walking the towpath of the Bridgewater Canal, browsing the independent shops and cafes along Monton Green, or exploring the wider Eccles and Salford area.
Community remains central to the pub’s identity, with the Blue Bell playing host to a wide range of live music events throughout September and beyond, alongside a regular weekly line-up of offers including 20% off grills on Saturdays, Wine Wednesday and Fizz Friday.
