The Bear’s Paw

Newton’s Community Sports Pub

The Bear’s Paw in Newton stands as a true cornerstone of the local community. Built to serve the expanding suburbs of Chester in the late twentieth century, the pub may be modern in structure, but its name carries deep historic roots. The original Bear’s Paw stood proudly in Chester city centre for centuries until its demolition in 1956, after which the licence and name were transferred to this welcoming new home on Dicksons Drive.

Designed with community at its heart, the pub features an open-plan layout, generous space, and a warm, friendly atmosphere that has brought people together since the day it opened. Now recognised as an Asset of Community Value, The Bear’s Paw continues its tradition as a proper local—one that still embodies everything a great pub should be.
